Laura In India

If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India.

What did you do yesterday? What did I do? I DROVE A TANK!

We left Amritsar after some eggs (yes, even the eggs are better here!) and the craziest driver (see joke below) took us to Muna Muma's (Aditi's Uncle's) Regiment Poona Horse which is the oldest Indian regiment and the most decorated Regiment in all of the Commonwealth (The Officer giving us the tour was sure to mention that the commonwealth included Canada).

When we pulled up there was a tank parked... and they basically said "Are you ready to go?" So they took us on a quick tour of the tank grounds (in the tank) to show us how the tank maneuvers and then they said "So are you ready to drive?"... "Followed by... You know how to drive a car, right?" (VERY few women drive in India) After we assured them that we knew how to drive we got some advice from Aditi's Uncle (who used to drive tanks) "Don't drive it like a car, Drive it like a tank". Oh, okay... No problem... I figured that meant drive over every thing with complete disregard for everything! (Although I'm not sure how that is different from India driving!)

Okay on to the driving part... I'm sure it's pretty much impossible to stall a tank but it is basically like driving a standard but to shift you move foward (up) and backward (downshift). Turning is the best part, there are two giant levers you pull the left one to turn left and (d'uh) the right to turn right.

The tank I drove was a T-72 Russian build Commissioned Indian Military TANK! Check it out this is exactly what it looked like -

That's RIGHT... I DROVE a TANK!

After driving a tank we hung out at the officer's mess and drank Indian beer and had an amazing Indian lunch on the lawn. Seriously life doesn't get better than this! Ah... what did you do yesterday?

I'm glad you didn't crash the tank. Dad wants to know if you can go hunting with the tank? The garden sounds beautiful.
